Mary Jane Begin - Make a Picture, Tell a Story

Professor in the Illustration Department at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she is an award-winning Illustrator and author known for her acclaimed picture books; Little Mouse’s Painting, A Mouse Told His Mother, Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Willow Buds, tales inspired by Wind in the Willows, a classic tale that she also illustrated.  Mary Jane wrote and illustrated her latest picture book, My Little Pony: Under the Sparking Sea: published by Little Brown Books in collaboration with Hasbro, in April 2013. Pamela Wright - Archiving the Nation's History

Chief Innovation Officer at the National Archives discusses her new role, ideas around creating an internal “Innovation Hub,” digitization, how public access to the Archives has evolved over the years and ideas about future projects. Wright previously served as the Archives’ first chief digital access strategist where she led the launch of many of the agency’s social media platforms, as well as the crowdsourcing project, the Citizen Activist Dashboard.

Howard Norman & Jane Shore - Novelist and Poet ... Together!

Howard Norman - A three-time winner of National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and a winner of the Lannan Award for fiction. His 1987 novel, The Northern Lights, was nominated for a National Book Award, as was his 1994 novel The Bird Artist. He is also author of the novels The Museum Guard, The Haunting of L, and Devotion, and most recently, I Hate to Leave this Beautiful Place.

Jane Shore - A renowned poet, she is the recipient of fellowships from The Guggenheim Foundation, The Radcliffe Institute, The Hodder at Princeton University, The Foxcroft School, and twice from The National Endowment for the Arts. She is a professor at George Washington University. She has published five book of poetry. Her most recent is A Yes-or-No Answer.

This event is co-sponsored with the Fellowship for Fiction or Nonfiction, Alive Arts (National Poetry Month), Mount Hope Magazine, and the Department of Creative Writing.
